Beyond Mere Words!

Theirs was a perfect union of love and friendship, even more enticing compared to that between Romeo and Juliet. On this fateful Friday evening, this newly married couple were sitting happily under a mango tree in front of their house receiving the evening fresh air and telling tales of their love escapade before they finally settled down in marriage.

The seven month expectant child the wife is carrying has been a great source of joy and hope for the family. Ngozi the wife has always wished that the child be a boy to make up for a brother she never had but Okoro her husband preferred a baby girl. This sort of conversation among them usually ends up in an argument like this evening. Ngozi started it all. "I can't wait to see my handsome prince born into this noble family." She said. "Who told you it is a boy? Okoro retorted. "Didn't you hear Ezenwanyi prophesy it to be a beautiful queen?" “Who cares about her prophesy, all I know is that my first child must be a boy.” She replied.

Okoro, stoop low; placed his left ear on the wife's tummy to feel the purse of the child but to his dismay noticed that his wife's wrapper was weight. On a closer look he discovered she was bleeding. "O God, I'm finished!" He exclaimed. The shout attracted the extended family members who rallied round to rush Ngozi to the village Health Centre. Luckily the resident doctor and nurses were on duty. Ngozi was immediately taken to the theatre.

Next two hours was like ages to the entire Okoro family members and friends who were under tension, praying and pacing around the corridors of the hospital's theatre wanting to get information about the welfare of Ngozi and her baby but to no avail. Minutes run into hours, finally the theatre door flange open and the doctor emerged beaming with smiles. Mr Okoro and the relations rushed to him to hear the news he has for them. "Doctor! Doctor! Doctor! Please how is my wife and child?" Mr Okoro asked almost in tears. "Your wife and babies are in good condition; she had a rapture that led to the bleeding. We had to operate her immediately to save her life and her babies. Congratulation, you have twins; bouncing baby boy and girl!" "Thanks be to God!” was the resounding chorus from the people. They all went into singing, dancing and praising God for this marvellous work done for them.

Five days later Ngozi walked home with her babies in the company of jubilating family members, neighbours, friends and the village women dancing group.  They continued to thank and praise God for this miraculous act done for them through the doctor and nurses.

The Okoro family's story is an expression of deep faith in God, expression of warm admiration and gratitude to God's presence and marvels in their lives. Like Okoro's family, we all have tales of God's wonderful deeds in our lives. Theirs is an answer to prayer, their story becomes an example that we can follow in praise of God in our daily endeavours. In joyful chorus with Okoro's family we say:  Praise God! Praise Him for His powerful deeds! Praise Him for His surpassing greatness. Praise him with fanfare of trumpet, praise him with harp and lyre, praise him with tambourines and dancing, praise him with strings and pipes, praise him with the clamour of cymbals, praise him with triumphant cymbals, Let everything that breathes give praise to the Lord God. Alleluia! (Psalms 150:1-6).

You can share with us your experiences of God’s marvellous deeds in your life, family, friends or neighbour. Who knows, you might be saving a soul or up lighting a depressed soul through your sharing.
